Analysis of Organic Compounds
EMT’s experienced, highly trained staff utilize state-of-the-art Gas Chromatography (GC), Mass Spectrometry (MS) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) techniques to provide analysis of volatile and semivolatile organic compounds. The combination of Enviroquant and Chemstation software enables EMT’s Organics Department staff to analyze, quantify and report concentrations of an enormous variety of compounds to extremely low (parts per billion range) detection levels.
Modern, state-of-the-art equipment and traditional techniques are utilized to prepare environmental samples for analysis. To allow for rapid soils and solids extraction, EMT uses Zymark turbovaps for concentration and Medisonics sonication extraction units. And, we have the equipment to set up over twenty-five simultaneous soxhlet extractions.
Our Entech 7000 Flow controller enables precise injection and flow control of air samples from such media as Summa canisters.
EMT has more than ten GCs online outfitted with a variety of detectors including:
- Mass Spectrometer Detector (MS)
- Electron Capture Detector (ECD)
- Flame Ionization Detector (FID)
- Photo Ionization Detector (PID)
Further, our newest GC/MS equipment is outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art software to allow our analysts to calculate samples faster than previous instrumentation. The inert ion source in this instrument also allows for significantly reduced “downtime” between batches of samples.
EMT has two HPLCs online that allow for the low-level determination of PNAs and herbicides, specifically carbamates. This extensive instrumentation allows EMT to consistently meet even the tightest turn-around times required.
Analysis of Inorganic Compounds
EMT’s Inorganics/Wet Chemistry Laboratory regularly analyzes nearly one hundred different inorganic parameters. EMT has set extremely high levels of quality and service to meet the needs of our clients who have a variety of regulatory reporting requirements. Our participation in regular proficiency tests keeps our performance in check. The results demonstrate our long-term accuracy and precision.
